Wimp Sanderson's Crimson Tide entered the 1990-1991 season ranked #7 in the AP Poll and for good reason. Alabama was coming off a Sweet 16 appearance and added HS All-American James Robinson and JUCO standout Latrell Sprewell for the '90-91 campaign.
Led by a combination of Robison, Melvin Cheatum and Robert Horry the Tide finished the regular season 18-9 before winning the SEC Tournament by beating Florida, Auburn and Tennessee.
That was good enough for a No. 4 seed in the Southeast Region of the NCAA Tournament where they beat Murray State and Wake Forest to earn a return trip to the Sweet 16.
